Swell your Stash! Where to shop now for fabrics...

Now that Hypernoodle Fabrics is coming to an end...where in the world can you buy your fabric?  There's got to be good shops out there to feed your Hypernoodle, right?
Well, I've got suggestions on how you can "Swell your Stash"!
Swell your Stash is my new series of posts that will help you figure out...well, how to make your stash swell up even bigger!  Us fabric groupies gotta stick together! hee hee hee!

I went into very short lived panic mode when I made the decision to close my fabric shop, it was short lived because I realized I didn't use any of the fabrics in my shop anyway because I never had time! LOL!  It's been so long since I've had the time to shop for fabric that I wanted to use and not what I needed for the shop, I wasn't sure where to start...

So I did some research....A LOT of research on different fabric shops to figure out which shops have these main things:

•Good selection of manufacturers
•Variety of fabric genres/designers
•Fair pricing
•Fast Shipping
These are the main, basic principles that all fabric shops should strive for.  The first shop suggestion I have for you has mastered these principles with perfection:

If you don't know about HAWTHORNE THREADS, you should because this shop is amaze-balls!
Husband and wife Lindsay and Charlie run this shop and have put together an online dream for today's fabric lover.  Lindsay and I recently conversed about how much we have in common about the way our fabric shops started.  Lindsay has serious fabric shop passion and it shows brilliantly in her incredible shop.

The selection at Hawthorne Threads is simply to DIE for...it makes me drool just looking at "Lindsay's Picks" on the home page.  There are fabrics across the board for everyone's aesthetic and preference ~ grouped together beautifully and easy to search for as well.  Shipping is super duper fast as well~(just like your Hypernoodle order used to come!)
The best part about Hawthorne Threads is their tiered pricing system.  You never need a coupon on their website because of the per yard and multi yard cut automatic discounts.  Even better, sign up for an account and log in every time you place an order and you'll get an additional Customer Appreciation Discount once you've reached a certain amount of yards based on how many yards you've ordered as a repeat customer.  Sweet!

You want to talk about the most amazing knack for grouping photos to display fabrics...it is truly jaw dropping. Check out this ensemble Hawthorne put together of Camelot Fabrics 'Gray Matters' line:
Wowzers!
I mean, if this doesn't make you want to sew (and buy), what will?!?  I'm doing a bag tutorial that will be posted very soon with some Gray Matters fabric...and as luck would have it, you can get some of this fabric at Hawthorne Threads!
Head on over and take a browse on the Hawthorne Threads website.  You will be over the moon 'fabric Happy' and I'm certain that you will find something to "Swell your Stash"!
Happy Browsing!

Tie Dye Diva Patterns

I don't like store bought patterns...why?  you ask...
The tissue paper is one of the main reasons!  I did a tutorial a while back on how to get multiple sizes on a store bought patter so you don't have to cut up that darned tissue paper because once you do...that's all she wrote!
Maybe I'm a whiner...but I just despise cutting up that tissue paper!  It rips sooooo easily!

I don't use patterns on the bags, wallets and the more simple garments I make.  But for the more complex or involved garments, I love PDF patterns!  They are so handy when you are either learning to sew, don't know how to create your own patterns or are in a time crunch and don't have the brain cells to figure out measurements for the perfect fit!
With that said, one of the best PDF pattern makers is Tie Dye Diva Patterns!  Jen, the shop owner has the CUTEST designs!  Here's a peek at one:

photo courtesy of Tie Dye Diva

Adore-ABLE!  Love!  Here's another design to give you an idea of the absolute amazing-ness involved:

Is your mouth gaping open yet???  and YES you CAN make these!
Jen makes the instructions easy to follow with suggestions for each pattern on the sewing experience needed to complete it (beginner/advanced beginner, etc)
Tie Dye Diva has instant download available so you can get your patterns quickly with no gas, time or trip to the store!  The PDF formats come in multiple sizes and the BEST part is...NO tissue paper!  You can print the patterns out on your regular printer and get to sewing right away!
The lovely thing about PDF patterns is that even with multiple sizes, you can print on demand and recreate the other sizes in the snap of a finger!  Brilliant!

I contributed to an article on Tie Dye Diva's Blog about coordinating fabrics...here's a link to Jen's blog article: http://www.tiedyedivadesigns.blogspot.com/2013/05/does-this-go-how-to-choose-and-combine.html

The article will be in 3 parts and has some wonderfully useful and insightful information from designers about choosing fabrics for your project.

Jen at Tye Dye Diva Patterns and I have teamed up to give you some fantastic deals!
You can save on patterns at Tie Dye Diva's webstore by using these coupon codes:

"FABMATCH"  = 15% off your pattern order
"BUNDLE"  = 25% off your order of 3 or more patterns
Here's a link to Jen's webstore:  http://www.tiedyedivapatterns.com
Check out all her patterns and save!

You can also use the above codes for Fabric orders from www.hypernoodlefabrics.com
as follows:

New US Shipping class...

Guess what, ya'll?
If you live in the US, there may be a new shipping rates that will save you $!
(These new rates are US Rates only)
Regional Rate Priority Mail Boxes for US Addresses are now available as a shipping option on hypernoodlefabrics.com
Regional Rate Boxes are still Priority Mail and offer the same shipping delivery times as other Priority Mail products for US addresses (2-3 business days)

The new rate is for between 10.5 to 14 yards of fabric
previously, the rate for anything over 10 yards and up to 26 yards was $11.00 in the regular Flat Rate Priority Mail Box...
now, the Regional Rate Boxes give you a price break for between 10.5 and 14 yards of fabric!
here is a breakdown of the new rate by States:

If you live in TEXAS or LOUISIANA...   $5.25
If you live in MISSISSIPPI, ARKANSAS, ALABAMA, OKLAHOMA or NEW MEXICO=$6.25
If you live in GEORGIA, FLORIDA, TENNESSEE, N CAROLINA or S CAROLINA =$8.00
If you live *almost anywhere else in the US= $9.00

*almost= this rate applies to every other State in the US except OREGON, WASHINGTON, HAWAII, ALASKA, MAINE, VERMONT and NEW HAMPSHIRE.  If you live in 1 of these named 7 States, shipping rates remain the same for 10.5 to 14 yards....

This is a TREMENDOUS Value for shipping on 10.5 to 14 yards of fabric--especially if you live in the South!  Those in TX, LA, MI, AR, AL, OK and NM have a 50% savings on shipping for this amount of fabric--Yippee!!  You can get 4 extra yards shipped for a mere .25 cents or $1.25 respectively!

If you live in GA, FL, TN, NC or SC you can save almost 30% on shipping this amount of fabric with the RR Box~and almost 20% in the other States (outside of the 7 States in the exception list)

If you order 14.5 or more yards, the regular Flat Rate Box rate will apply and is still the same as before at $11.00 for up to 26 yards...which is still a GREAT rate for shipping...If shipping actually went on weight and not on a Flat Rate, it would be upwards of $18.00-$26.00 to ship 14-26 yards of fabric depending on where you live!

If all of this confuses you...no worries!  We've made it easy for you--just add what you need to your cart and when checking out you will see all of the available shipping options that apply to where you live~just check the radio dial button for the one you'd like!

Let me know if ya have any questions--you can email me using the "Contact" link at the top left here on the blog~☺

Hypernoodle Fabrics.com-- long wait almost over!

I am SO excited!  The super long wait for the Hypernoodle Fabrics website is almost over!
YIPPPEEEEE!
It has been a long time coming with so much hard work put into it, I cannot wait for everyone to be able to use it!  I think you will all be so happy with the ease of shopping for all of your fabrics!  We are talking about less than 2 weeks, people!!!  Woo Hoo!
I love Etsy~ but I know that "Custom Listings" on Etsy in the Hypernoodle Fabric store have been a point of frustration for us all.  It is not easy to shop for fabric on Etsy with the multiple variances of yardage and increments that a person can purchase fabric in.
I have had so many customers tell me how much they LOVE Hypernoodle Fabrics, but that they wish I had a website where they could shop because shopping on Etsy gives them a migraine since they can't purchase the quantities they like automatically from *ANY* fabric shop on Etsy.  You would not believe how much people despise the "Custom Listing"!  And I cannot blame any of you!  Well...we are going to alleviate that for ya!

ON HYPERNOODLEFABRICS.COM, you will be able to:

  • customize your cart in any 1/2 yard increment you choose!  Add to your cart automatically in the increment YOU need without having to ask for then wait for a custom listing (or have a time limit on a Custom Listing!)
  • SEE the available stock of every fabric next to its listing...this will help you know what Hypernoodle Fabrics has on hand of any particular fabric in real time!
  • Have shipping combine CORRECTLY at check out--there will be no need to worry about over-paying on shipping and then having to wait on a refund (or having to request and then wait on a custom listing to have shipping combine correctly!)
  • MORE opportunities for Coupons and Free Shipping on Hypernoodle Fabrics Website.
...The Site is ready to go--all we have to do is load in our actual stock amounts when it goes live--**PLEASE NOTE** that once hypernoodlefabrics.com goes live, individual yards and Custom Listing WILL NOT be offered in the Hypernoodle Fabrics Etsy Store.  The Hypernoodle Fabrics Etsy store will remain open, and will have Duos and Trios only.  Those Duos and Trios will not be customizable.  This is not only to help you shop easier, but to make sure we can maintain accurate stock amounts for our "real-time" stock counts on hypernoodlefabrics.com.

The only thing holding up the Grand Opening is that we are moving next week  :(  I am bummed we can't get it up for you next week, but almost everything is packed so we are going to start fresh once we are moved and settled--so look for the Grand Opening announcement around June 30th-July1st!

***WE WILL BE HAVING A ♥MAJOR♥ GIVEAWAY FOR THE GRAND OPENING OF HYPERNOODLEFABRICS.COM!!!** It is only being told about here on the BLOG!  Be sure to become a follower here on The Hyper Hub blog, as only followers will be in the running for this HUGE give-away!

Stay tuned for all the details!!!!

Color Block Tot in the House...

So it looks like the New Fabrics that were supposed to come this week have been delayed  :(  Booooo!  But they are scheduled to ship out the week of the 16th, so not much longer!

Speaking of "New" fabrics...for those of you who don't know, I entered the recent Project Selvage contest on Spoonflower which was also sponsored by Micheal Miller Fabrics.  My fabric--named "Color Block Tot"  made it into the semi-final round --the top 75 out of almost 1,000 entries!  I've been playing with designing fabrics for awhile as fabric is an absolute obsession of mine that I am very passionate about.  So I decided to throw my hat into the ring (so to speak)!  There are some amazingly talented people who entered~ I didn't make it into the finals--but I am soooooo proud of myself for making it into the top 75 with my very 1st design!  It gives me that motivational push I need to press on!  I am not a professional graphic designer in any way shape or form~
My area of design expertise is sewing projects--I can design a purse from start to finish (and oodles of other things)~ and whip it together like there is no tomorrow because I *always* have TONS of ideas floating around in my head (thus the "Hypernoodle") So while I was designing these purses, plushies, wallets, diaper bags and fabric bins--I started envisioning fabrics I'd like them to be made in during the design process...problem was--there wasn't anything like the ones I was seeing in my head on the market!  So....it was the next natural step to start designing them myself!
But graphic design is a whoooooole 'nother animal--not for the faint of heart, indeed!  I've been teaching myself graphic design and have been lucky enough to have the help of my friend Dawn (who is an *amazing* graphic designer) I was able to mock up enough stuff up to have an actual design book of prints doodled out that needed to be digitized...and when the Spoonflower contest came up~ I thought no better time than the present & Color Block Tot was the one I choose for the contest.  I got an amazing response and some very lovely Congrats from my customers in the Etsy Shop (Thanks, ya'll!!!) If you haven't seen it, here is the design:

If you want to see the print in repeat (the way it will look when actually printed in a FQ or in yardage) check out my Spoonflower profile:    http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/hypernoodle

then just click on the fabric and you can select the radio dial button for how you want to view it in repeat  (ex: 1 yard, 2 yards, 5 yds--FQ)
So, I ordered a test-swatch of the fabric from Spoonflower and it finally came this week (took almost a month!) So here it is:

When I saw the coloring, I was like "ACK!!"---NOOOOOoooo!!
It was accurate on the RGB color scale in the digitized version...but it came out with a "washed out" look in the sample.  I wasn't too shocked because I had heard that with the way Spoonflower prints, the coloring can get skewed sometimes.  But, this is how we live and learn, right?
It's hard to tell in the picture, but all the colors are actually ok---except the red---it looks like a dark salmon  :(  ... the green is actually a moss color--the brown could be a shade or two darker as well.  So it's going to get tweaked and I'll get another sample printed to make sure it is more "true" in color and then I will be ordering a couple of yards or so to cut and sell as FQ's in my shop!  Yaaayyy!  I'm so proud!  I've got coordinates for this print as well~that will be coming soon!
Let me know if you are interested in purchasing a FQ or 1/2 yard of a one of a kind-original Hypernoodle Fabric!  When the tweaking is complete and I get some printed...there may also be a *give-a-way* on the blog for a FQ of my very 1st original fabric design!!  *Yippeee*!!!! ☺

The (Fabric) walls are caving in!

So here's what my "sewing room" (I use that term verrrry lightly) has turned into...

Not a lot of sewing goes on in here anymore, that's why I use the term "sewing room" lightly--LOL
And that's not even the 1/2 of it!  There are 3 other walls that look exactly like this!
And here is what is left of our "Guest Bedroom" (also using this term verrrry lightly)

Again, the above picture is only 1 wall in this room...there are 3 more like this!
My Husband and Son are up to their ears in fabric...Every time the UPS guy shows up they moan in unison...it is pretty comical if you ask me.
It has become obvious that we need to move~Hypernoodle Fabrics has taken off like mad and I am in desperate need of a dedicated studio to house all these bolts.  By the way--this doesn't even *BEGIN* to cover my personal fabric stash which currently lives in: Every closet in our home--including over 1/2 of the Master Bedroom Closet...
When the shipping boxes and supplies started inching their way into my husband's beloved Garage...that was the end of it for him!  LOL--now he wholeheartedly agrees that we need to move...I can't blame him, he loves working on cars and tinkering with fixing stuff so when I start invading his space--you can stick a fork in him!  Plus, I would be fully annoyed if his tools and toys started ending up in my "sewing room"--so touché!
Not looking forward to moving again, but it is totally necessary and unavoidable.. plus, it will provide everyone of Hypernoodle Fabric customers with a lot more fabric and hey....who doesn't want that?!?!?!  (Hello!!!)  ☺

FABRIC!!!

Howdy ya'll!
Man~I know it's been awhile since my last post, I told you I'm a Blog Slacker...lol...
Sooooooo, I went to Quilt Market again this year in Houston. For those who don't know what Quilt Market is: it is a GIANT vendor trade show where you can see and place orders for all the wonderful new fabrics and gadgets to sew & quilt with. It is SUCH a blast because you get to see all the newest fabrics before they hot the shelves---and you tould not BELIEVE all the awesome fabrics that will be coming out!!! Being at Market is like being a kid in a severely overstocked candy store (especially for those of us who are addicted to fabric)!
Like the space cadet I am, I forgot to bring my camera (Booooo!) which really bites because I wanted to take pictures of some of the awesome booths this year to post here on my blog! I got to meet fabric designers Paula Prass and Patty Young and they had the coolest booths in the Michael Miller section! I also got to chat again with Nancy Zieman and Anna Marie H. who I had met previously--it is such a thrill to get to meet the fabulous ladies who design all of these wonderful fabrics and products!
This was my 2nd time at Market and as fun as it is, it is really overwhelming! There is so much ground to cover, so much to see and so many decisions to make! I had a plan b4 I got there on what I was going to get for my fabric shop and that plan went out the window because there were so many new and awesome fabrics to choose from. The new bolts should be arriving in the next few weeks through the end of the year--so be on the lookout for them in my fabric shop! I know you will love all of the cool designs! Yippee!!! I already can't wait for Spring Quilt Market and I promise that I will not forget my camera for that one!
I'll fill you in more later on my fabulous Quilt Market Adventure! :)
