FALL 2012 Quilt Market

Fall 2012 Quilt Market was this passed weekend and of course I was there!
It is in my neck of the woods every Fall so I'm lucky enough to get in the car and drive downtown to attend. Seeing as how it is an International Market for Fabric Shop Owners and Manufacturers come from all over the US and the world, it is sheer luck that I live in the city where the event is held every Fall~ niiiice!
For those of you who don't know, Quilt Market is quite literally a "Market" for Fabric Shop owners to preview and order new lines from the Fabric Manufacturers. There are HUNDREDS of booths set up by companies with not only their new fabric lines, but sewing and quilting notions, Machines (sewing, embroidery and Long Arm Quilting machines), patterns, batting and interfacing and furniture. Here's a photo of the Market Floor that gives you an idea of all the booths and how it is set up:
As you can see, it is quite massive!  Navigating the floor is always overwhelming, so it is always a good idea to have a plan.  This year, we planned to visit the booths of the manufacturers whose fabrics we currently carry and also scope out some new manufacturers.
We first visited Michael Miller's booth, and they did not disappoint!  If you know Hypernoodle, you know we LOVE ♥ Michael Miller fabrics!  They're booth this year was rather subued...which is odd for them, they usually win or place in "Best Booth" of the show.  They did display a ton of very beautiful quilts this year, but no "theatrics" as what is known from them...guess this year they were trying to keep it straight to the point!
Now here are a couple of the new fabric lines coming from Michael Miller...
The top fabric is called "Honore" this is the SORBET colorway--notice the new "Play Stripe" fabric?  It is called 'Tangerine'
Another Super cute line..."Small World"...(and yes, another great "Play Stripe"!, this one is called 'Malibu') along with "Busy Bee", "Small World Floral" and "small World Stripe"

There are a lot of really great prints coming from Michael Miller~we will get them all posted into the COMING SOON section on the website as quickly as possible for everyone to preview.  For you ZOOLOGY lovers, there are 2 new colorways coming in that favorite print: "Orchid" for the girls and "Dirt" for the boys!  We can't wait!!!

Here's a peek at part of Riley Blake's booth:
Riley Blake also has some AMAZING prints on the way!  Including new colors of Chevrons!!!
Baby Pink, Lime, Purple, Rouge and Medium Blue are the new Chevron colors that will be printed next year and they will be just as popular as the current colors!

Here's a peek at another part of Riley Blake's booth with projects made from just DOTS
We love Dots!  They are so versatile and can be used on their own--no other print required!
Last but not least, we have a pic of  part of Robert Kaufman's booth:
Some very nice prints on their way from Robert Kaufman as well!

We also visited: Westminster/Free Spirit, Alexander Henry and Timeless Treasures booths.  We placed orders with all of them for upcoming lines (as mentioned, we'll get all the new fabrics loaded into the COMING SOON section on our website as soon as possible)
Honestly, there are some GREAT new fabrics coming out from the manufacturers we already carry~ *but* we were under-impressed by most of the other fabric manufacturers as we were looking for new Fabric Companies to carry their lines...that is EXCEPT for Camelot Fabrics.  This company has some great new prints so we will be adding them as a Manufacturer in addition to the current Manufacturers we carry...more info on Camelot Cottons coming soon in a future post!

We were looking at possibly adding MODA fabrics to our shop.  We never cared for MODA fabrics and all of you, our great customers, did not express any interest in any of MODA's lines.  However, it seemed that MODA has been trying to get with the program lately and add more fresh, young designs--they still have a long way to go because most of their prints are geared toward another demographic that just does not fit our shop or our customers very well.  But they did have a couple of very hip/cool-looking prints that we notices---- but quite honestly, the people in their booth were rude and passive.  They didn't act like the cared to acquire new vendors and brushed us off when we attempted to ask about getting some information.  After sitting with a group of other Shop Owners at lunch in the convention center, they mentioned that MODA is quite "stuck-up" and if you are not a big time Fabric Shop that they don't have time for you.  Well, that was exactly how they made us feel!  It is sad that they would treat potential vendors this way...so I think it is safe to say that we will not be adding any MODA fabrics anytime soon!! LOL!

We want to offer you the things that you like and you have let us know what you like so we will always do our best to make sure we are offering you the newest, most fresh, hip, cute and fabulous prints that you can't live without!
We will also begin offering SOLID cottons by the end of the year/beginning of 2013.  Some of you have expressed interest in having SOLIDS in some of the top basic colors, so we will have those for ya very soon!!!
LOAD of great new stuff is on it's way!! Stay tuned! ☺
Happy Sewing!!

Quilt Market 2011

Welllllll...I am a putz~ I forgot to take my camera to Quilt Market on Saturday
:(
So there is a serious lack of pics-...Booooooo!
I was running late and dashed out without it--by the time I realized it, the day was almost over--but the bright side is that I did manage to take a couple of pics with my cell phone camera!
This will be a good way to give you an idea of what the booths are like as an inside peek!
You all know that I adore Micheal Miller fabric...(as well as you!) Here is a pic of what their booth looked like this year:

Michael Miller's booth at Market is usually quite a Grand Affair~ while still nice, it wasn't as "spectacular" as I've seen it at past Markets.  So to give you an idea, there are a kazillion booths at Market--from fabric companies, magazines, notions, sewing machines et all...
Like I told you previously, it is really all very overwhelming--there is so much to see & absorb!  All these companies are there to show shop owners their newest, latest & greatest products.  There is really no way to see everything.  You really have to pick and choose and have a plan or you will be soooooo at a loss (lesson learned from the 1st year I went)
So, I did have a pretty precise plan... (yay!) but part of it was taking more pics for you guys for the blog here--LOL-- so you can see how well THAT plan worked out.
Michael Miller has a TON of new fabby that was debuted at Market...here is one of the new lines from Pillow and Maxfield for Michael Miller:

I'm sure some of you are familiar with Pillow and Maxfield...their previous line had "Gypsy Paisley" and "Kaleidoscope" in it~ we carry both prints in the shop.  This new line is just as pretty and vibrant as their previous line...I ordered a few prints from it, including the one on the bottom right (with the turquoise background)  It is sooooooooo gorgeous!!!
One of the prints I am most excited about from Michael Miller is this one...(cause it was my idea!!!) check it out:

Yeppers, ya'll~ it is Groovy Guitar in Bloom!  YIPPEE!!!  I love both the Zoology and Groovy Guitar prints from Michael Miller...but all the colorways were more geared for boys--which is surprising because most industry prints are for girls!  So through a little fabric buddy birdie at Michael Miller, I got the idea into the Design Team's head for a Pink Zoology--(which came out as Bloom Zoology at Spring Market last year) and a Pink Groovy Guitar--which you see above & will be coming very soon!  *TAAA--DAA*  I am thrilled and I'm sure you all will be too when it gets here!

We're adding on 2 new manufacturer's prints this year...Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Timeless Treasures Fabrics.  Here's a peek at the entrance to Robert Kaufman's booth:

Now brace yourself...I ordered a TON of prints from Robert Kaufman...a lot of Anne Kelle and some other fabulous prints.  I actually think I ordered more from Robert Kaufman than I did from Michael Miller (I know, shocking--right?!?)  This was based not only on the fact that I've been eyeing quite a few of their prints for the shop, but also based on quite a few requests from fellow Hypernoodle's to carry some of them.

Then I was off to Timeless Treasures Fabrics.  They have some of the best novelty prints in the business~and lots of super cute/modern/fresh & current other prints.  Here is a sneak peek at 2 of their new lines:

A few of these in the pic above are coming to Hypernoodle Fabrics verrrry soon! ☺

Then it was off to Westminster/Free Spirit Fabrics--here's the entrance to their booth:
Ty Pennington has a new line from Westminster and we've got some of those prints on order too!
Here's a pic of the Bernina Booth:

I like Bernina's--do any of you have one?
But I actually ended up getting a Janome Professional Machine at Market~lol...It won me over...it had ALL the features I was looking for so I impulse bought it--but it was an awesome impulse buy--I stayed up alllllll night Saturday night setting it up and it sews like a DREAM!♥

So unfortunately, that is all the pics I have  :(
So sorry, ya'll~I know, I'm a putz~ I promise I'll do a better job at the next Quilt Market on the pics for you all!  It was still fun giving you this mini inside peek!

I'll be loading up all the new fabrics into the "COMING SOON" section of the website over the next few weeks as pics become available.  You've got a multitude of choices of new fabrics so be sure to check the website often to see all of the fabulous new prints that are going to be arriving next month and December!  I'll post a reminder here on the blog & on the Hypernoodle Facebook page to let you all know when stuff is added to the COMING SOON section so you can start making your lists!
Happy Sewing!

Almost time for Quilt Market!

For those of you who don't know, Quilt Market (in a nutshell) is a Trade Show for Fabric Shop Owners to see the latest and greatest of the Industry.  New fabric lines make their debut along with machines, notions, patterns and the likes.

International Quilt Market happens twice a year, in the Fall and Spring~ I am lucky enough that the one in the Fall always takes place in my backyard, Houston TX.  It is a 3 day non-stop, jam packed, overwhelming days of trying to absorb all of the things the Industry has to offer for the upcoming season.  It is seriously like being a kid in a candy store.  The 1st time I went 7 years ago, I went into sensory overload!  There is just sooooo much to see and not enough time to see it!

International Quilt MARKET is a Trade show for vendors only~the general public cannot attend~so you have to be a shop owner or a press agent to obtain entrance.  BUT International Quilt FESTIVAL which is held the week after Quilt Market is a show that everyone can get into!  Quilt FESTIVAL is a show where shop owners have booths and the general public comes to enjoy shops from around the world!

Soooooooo...I'll be going to Quilt Market next weekend and I'm going to give you all a look inside the Quilt Market world!  You'll get sneak peeks of some of the new fabric lines BEFORE they come out in December and get to see the utter massive-ness of Quilt Market in progress!

That being said...there are always a TON (I mean a TON, people) of new fabric lines that come out.  We are going to be adding at least 2 (if not more) new Manufacturers to our line up of the Fabric Companies whose lines we carry.  It is definitely out with the old an in with the new!

In order to be progressive and move forward, we've got to clear out bolts and make room for the the new stuff.  There are always certain bolts of fabric that we will carry---what we consider the "classics" (one of them is Carnival Bloom from Michael Miller.  This print has been going long and strong for as long as long as I can remember!)  But there are several prints that will be "Going Away" so to speak--so if you have been tinkering with getting a bit of something...SNATCH IT UP!  There are no guarantees that it will be around!  And this is not just here at Hypernoodle Fabrics--when new lines of prints come out, the manufacturers obviously retire and/or discontinue prints to make way for the new lines.  The manufacturers (Michael Miller, Alexander Henry, Westminster--etc) only keep printing the fabrics that have met a criteria for their sales projections...and most of them fall short and will be going away.  I know from experience--  I learned the hard way that just because I love a fabric and my customers love a fabric, does not mean that it will continue to be printed by the manufacturer (HELLO- ORCHID ROUND ABOUT!--Ugh!)

So the GOOD news is there is a BOATLOAD of new stuff coming your way to choose from!
The BAD news is that some things available now, will likely not be around much longer!
So be sure to snag the ones that are available now that you like--if you blink, they may be gone for good!

So in addition to getting an inside view into Quilt Market, we will be having an extravaganza sale coming in November~ and it will be MASSIVE!!!  Score!!
Stay tuned here on the blog for details next month...
